Weasel

 Weasel is the Syracuse University Department of Physics 2nd generation 'PoP' (a Pile of Pentium's). It is used to carry out extensive numerical simulations, especially in quantum gravity and materials physics.

PoP: a Pile-of-Pentiums, a Pile-of-PCs, a Pile-of-Processors, or even a Beowulf-class supercomputer. Weasel is our 2nd generation beowulf cluster consisting of dual 1GHz Pentium III PCs running Linux with 100Mbps switched networking between them. "PoP" - Weasel's predecessor - has now retired. This time around we opted for smaller rackmount "pizza boxes" to save on space and for ease of access to individual machines for service. Our aim is to provide a cost-effective computational resource for the Physics Department at Syracuse University.
